An Embodied Self-Portraiture Workshop

“Self-portrait photography is a way for me to come back into my body.

A way to process the hard-to-sit-with emotions.”

Are you desiring a new way to see? To express? To find refreshing after traversing some of the more rugged outer and inner landscape of your life?

The kaleidoscope of feelings we experience through life can be overwhelming at times. We need ways to come home to ourselves, to sit with the quiet, naked truth.

Sometimes (oftentimes), our life experiences can’t be spoken in words.

What can we do with these experiences? With the overwhelm? Do we ever make time to sit with what’s really there?

Oftentimes, we need a way to move through our experiences and emotions in an embodied process. And we need to express ourselves through creativity.

To breathe, to process, to release, to transform.

We’ve found some practices that help us sit with, feel into, breathe through, and process the ever-changing terrain of the human experience: Embodiment and Yoga, Breathwork and Creative Expression through Self-Portraiture. And we want to share it with you.

In this one-day workshop, you will learn how to embody your own inner landscape in a new way. You’ll be in the company of kindreds, sharing tea and cake, learning from Meredith about her self-portrait process, practicing getting grounded and in touch with yourself in a new way with Abby through breath, movement, and meditation.

You’ll experience an alchemy of sorts, “a process that aims to turn shards of metal into gold”. You’ll come away with a new way of seeing - and a way of processing the broken pieces into something beautiful.

You’ll come away with your own self-portraits on film and a kindred sisterhood of embodied muses to encourage you as you continue on this journey.

The workshop includes:

  • Welcome Circle: coffee, tea, light breakfast

  • Embodiment Practice and Meditation with Abby

  • Self-Portraiture Tutorial with Meredith and Q+A time

  • One-on-ones with Meredith for self-portrait time

  • Lunch / free time / exploring time / optional embodied healing consultation with Abby

  • Closing Circle Celebration with tea and cake

I believe relationships are the most precious things we have, and that starts with our relationship with ourselves. To know myself, to love myself, and to have a compassion and a curiosity about myself has been the greatest gift I have ever received. To be able to look inward without being repulsed or ashamed, to be able to look inward and see it all as beauty and to make something out of that beauty is what I feel called to do time and time again. To bring the pain and suffering to the surface. To look at it and say “I see you, and I am making something for you, with you. Thank you for teaching me.” It is the most exciting thing for me to be teaching my daughter and it feels like the greatest honor to get to experience life in all its tastes smells and touches and dance with it on the earth. My self-portraiture is one way I create in this way; with all of these feelings.. Connect with me on instagram: @mer_mer_meredith

I believe my soul’s purpose is to teach, to nurture, to share love and peace with others. I’m currently finding joy in nurturing my three little ones and teaching yoga and embodiment practices in person and virtually. The practices I offer become a way to come back 'home' to oursleves. Through them, I’ve found a sense of peace, joy, and wholeness- a way to connect more deeply to myself, to God, to the beauty of this world, and to other humans. I have a heart to see people living more connected, whole, and healed lives. My work through Flourish Body & Soul has the goal of offering a safe place for exploration; a kind environment where you can cultivate grounding and flourishing in your one ‘wild and precious life’. I’d love to connect with you more at @abigail.mortenson
